Dr. Jingang Li, a Ph.D. graduate from Materials Science and Engineering Program and Texas Materials Institute at UT Austin, was awarded the prestigious 2021 Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed Students Abroad by the China Scholarship Council.

This highly competitive national award is given to Chinese graduate students studying abroad who do not receive financial support from the Chinese government. Recipients are chosen worldwide each year for their outstanding accomplishments in academia. Among all Chinese overseas graduate students, only up to 600 are awarded each year globally.

Jingang joined UT Austin as a Ph.D. student in Fall 2017 after receiving his B.S. in applied physics from University of Science and Technology of China. He completed his degree with outstanding achievements in optics and photonics in December 2021, working with Prof. Yuebing Zheng. Jingang has published over 10 first-authorship papers in prominent scientific journals including Nature Communications, Science Advances, Chemical Reviews, Advanced Materials, Nano Letters, ACS Nano, etc. His research has been widely highlighted by many science media and recognized by a number of awards, including MRS Graduate Student Award, University Graduate Continuing Fellowship, and Ben Streetman Prize.

Jingang is currently working as a postdoc in Department of Mechanical Engineering at UC Berkeley. More information about his research can be found here.
