MIRT Hosts ARS Summer Internship

The Materials Interdisciplinary Research Team (MIRT) recently hosted their annual educational internship for the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders in continuation of an ongoing relationship between the programs. Juniors from the ARS engineering pathway spent a week with postdoctoral fellows and engineering graduate students learning about battery construction in the Manthiram Group laboratories. The students learned how to synthesize their own cathode materials and then characterize them using x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The materials were then tested in batteries and the results presented to assorted ARS and TMI faculty and staff.
