Facility Overview
The thermal analysis facility is used to evaluate the thermal characteristics of ceramics, metals, and polymers over a wide range of temperatures (ambient temperature to 1000-1500 oC) in various atmospheres. Variation of mass with temperature arising from oxidation, reduction or decomposition reactions, enthalpy changes arising from exothermic and endothermic phase transitions or chemical reactions, and dimensional changes with temperature arising from thermal expansion or contraction are measured. Training is required before these facilities can be used.
