Dr. Steven Zinkle is the University of Tennessee Governor’s Chair for Nuclear Materials and holds a joint appointment in the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Department of Materials Science and Engineering.

He received his B.S. Nuclear Engineering in 1980 and two M.S. degrees: one in Nuclear Engineering in 1982 and another in Materials Science and 1985. He also received in Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering with a minor in Physics from the University of Wisconsin in 1985. His research includes physical metallurgy of structural materials; the effects of ion and neutron irradiation on the microstructure, physical properties, and mechanical properties of metals and ceramics; transmission electron microscopy; and fusion and space fission reactor materials studies.
