Instructions for Applying to the MSE Graduate Program

All applicants MUST complete both the GIAC and the MS&E application procedures in order to be considered for admission. All material MUST be received by the dates listed below.

Application Deadlines:

   Fall Spring
 US Applicants December 15 October 1
 International Applicants December 15 October 1

NOTE: December 15th is also the priority deadline for applicants seeking fellowships or financial aid for Fall/Summer admission.

How to Apply:

A. Graduate and International Admissions Center (GIAC) application.

All graduate applicants first must complete the GIAC application process.

The procedures vary slightly for domestic and international applicants but among the common requirements are: the Texas Common Application, an application fee, official transcripts and official test scores. Our program cannot consider any application until GIAC has received and referred your application materials to our office.

When you complete the “References” portion of the online application for admission, you will give the names and email addresses of those you have asked to recommend you. Be sure that the email address is current and accurate.

You will be asked to inform us if you are going to waive the right to view your letters after they are submitted. Please indicate this by answering the associated question on the application for admission.

We will send an e-mail message to the address you provide and ask your recommender to visit a web site where they can complete a questionnaire. Your recommender will be informed if you have not waived your right to view his/her letter of recommendation.

If you make a mistake on the email address or if you need to replace one recommender with another please contact Marla Boye at marla.boye@austin.utexas.edu.

The Institution code for the University of Texas at Austin for GRE and TOEFL score reports is 6882. No department code is necessary.

B. MS&E Departmental application.

All applicants wishing to apply to our program must submit the following additional materials by the designated deadlines as an EMAIL attachment to: mse@tmi.utexas.eduPAPER APPLICATION MATERIALS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!

1. MSE Applicant Information Form . (Adobe Reader 7.0 or better required. This form MUST be submitted as an email attachment) APPLICATION IS CURRENTLY UNDERGOING REVISIONS - July 2, 2008

NOTE: File names should be as follows for Spring, Summer & Fall...
 
LAST NAME_First Name - 089app

Use the last two digits of the year you are applying for and then the following information to indicate the semester you are applying for.  Each semester is represented by a number so Spring = 2, Summer = 6 and Fall = 9. 

EXAMPLE: an application submitted by our Graduate Coordinator, Clarissa Pena for Fall 2009 should be as follows:

No additional materials will be accepted by our office.  Do Not send a CV, resume, publications or any other materials to our office as they will NOT be considered.  

C. Letters of reference.

Three letters are required of all applicants. GIAC recently launched their online Letters of Reference program which should enable your recommenders to log into the reference site. Please refer to the GIAC instructions above for more information. EMAIL LETTERS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.
