Instructions for Applying to the MSE Graduate Program

All applicants MUST complete the GIAC application procedures and All materials MUST be received by the dates listed below.

Application Deadlines:

   Fall Spring
 US Applicants December 15 October 1
 International Applicants December 15 October 1

NOTE: December 15th is also the priority deadline for applicants seeking fellowships or financial aid for Fall/Summer admission.  No additional forms are required to be considered for Research or Teaching Assistantships.  Learn more about other forms of financial aid on the Graduate School's Financing your Education page .

How to Apply:

A. Graduate and International Admissions Center (GIAC) application.

All graduate applicants first must complete the GIAC application process this process is summarized below but please be sure to follow the official procedures outlined on the GIAC website.

The procedures vary slightly for domestic and international applicants but among the common requirements are: the Texas Common Application, an application fee, official transcripts and official test scores.  Within the Texas Common Application you will be asked to provide references, a CV and a Statement of Purpose. Our program cannot consider any application until GIAC has received and referred your application materials to our office.

1. Official transcripts from every senior college attended
2. Official GRE score (ETS code 6882 - no department code is necessary)
3. Official TOEFL score (International applicants only (ETS code 6882 - no department code is necessary)
4. Application Fee

B. MS&E Departmental application.

The departmental application is no longer required as of the Fall 2010 application cycle. 

C. Letters of reference, C.V. & Statement of Purpose.

Three letters are required of all applicants. GIAC's online Letters of Reference program enables your recommenders to log into the reference site. Please refer to the GIAC instructions above for more information. EMAIL LETTERS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.

CV & SOP may both be submitted online in the final step of the Texas Common Application.  

No additional materials will be accepted by our office.  Do Not send a CV, resume, publications or any other materials to our office as they will NOT be considered.  We will contact you if we need further information.  Check your application status online at: http://utdirect.utexas.edu/nr/appstat.html
